MIRI: Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (Food Industry), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, conducted a working visit to the Kabuloh Precision Farming Park Project and the Kabuloh Incubation Centre located at the Kabuloh Agricultural Research Centre, Miri.
According to Dr Abdul Rahman, the precision farming park project is an initiative by the Sarawak government to modernise the agricultural sector through the use of rain protection system (SPH) technology equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) applications, thus aiming to attract youth to venture into agriculture.
“This project is being developed on a 10-hectare land for the cultivation of high-value vegetables for the export market. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025 and is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026,” he said.
He said that the Sarawak State Farmers' Organisation (PPNS) has been appointed by M-FICORD as the implementing agency for the RM30 million project.
"When completed, Agro Global Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of PPNS, will be the main driver for the operation," he said, who is also the Chairman of PPNS.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman informed that the Kabuloh Incubation Centre, which was completed several years ago for the purpose of processing coffee and chips, was not yet operational due to the absence of a company interested in becoming an operator.
However, the results of the visit saw Agro Global agree to take over the operation of the incubation centre to process various local agricultural products.
Also present during the visit were Miri Division Agriculture Officer Hafriz Razak; Kabuloh ARC Superintendent Johnson Chong, Krystle Amanda Rabai Nasip; PPNS General Manager, Gom Raway; PPNS Engineering Division Manager, Sibylle Suley Surik; Foo Kee Seng; and Agro Global Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer, Nobel Pang.
