SADONG JAYA: The Drip-Medium Soil Vegetable and Fruit Crop Development Project in the Iboi/Pelandok area is a pioneering project under the management of the Sadong Jaya Community Cooperative Berhad.
Yesterday, a monitoring visit was held to assess the progress of the agricultural project under the supervision of the Samarahan Integrated Regional Development Agency (IRSDA) led by Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee.
According to her, the project known as the Sadong Jaya Community Agro Farm is being implemented on land owned by the Sadong Jaya Mosque Trust Board with a total area of 12 acres.
“This project has been implemented in stages since June involving 14 participants consisting of local youth including women.
“In the long term, this project is planned as a pilot project under the management of the Sadong Jaya Community Cooperative Berhad which uses two planting methods, namely the fertigation system and the open planting system,” he said after the visit.
Clearly, the types of crops cultivated include chili, chili tunjuk, watermelon, cucumber, long beans and papaya, in addition to planning to plant fruit trees in the next phase.
He added that the establishment of this agro farm is not only aimed at increasing agricultural production, but also acts as a center for collecting agricultural products for the local community.
“This visit ensures that the implementation of the project runs according to plan and provides optimal benefits to the participants and the local community.
“This is because projects like this can increase sources of income as well as improve the skills of participants in the field of agricultural production,” he said, who is also the Chairman of the IRSDA Agricultural Development Subcommittee.
He hopes that more people will participate in this field in the future.
“This approach is in line with the government's desire to empower the community-based agricultural sector, encourage youth involvement in modern agriculture and increase the income and well-being of rural residents in the Sadong Jaya area,” he stressed.
Samarahan Division Agriculture Officer, Hamzah Abu Bakar and Samarahan Division Land and Survey Department (JTS) Urban and Rural Planning Officer, Abang Ahmad Azlan Abang Ariffin were also present.
