KUCHING: A total of RM3.7 million has been channelled to the Satang Biru Area Fishermen's Association (PNK) for the purpose of upgrading the infrastructure of the Pond Prawn Farming Project.

Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said that previously LKIM had also spent high costs on the development of ports in Tanjung Bako and Tanjung Manis.

“We know that Sarawak has great potential to become a fishing hub in Malaysia, coupled with its two modern ports.

“Therefore, we continue to try to help fishermen through the distribution of such allocations to rebuild the infrastructure in phases,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after officiating the LKIM Chairman’s Rahmah Mesra MADANI Ceremony with PNK Satang Biru Fishermen 2026 at Esplanade Telaga Air, here, today.

He also expressed confidence that through such assistance, fishermen can increase their productivity and standard of living.

“Therefore, we urge fishermen to diversify economic projects to be in line with the establishment of this association, which is to advance the economic and social interests of its members,” he said.

At the ceremony, there was also a presentation of a cheque for the Fishermen’s Living Allowance (ESHN) to PNK Satang Biru for the year 2026 amounting to RM288,000.

In addition, the presentation of a cheque for the Incentive Income Increase/Fishing Equipment Assistance Program involved 52 recipients in the form of assistance fishing equipment.

The aid consisted of two recipients of 15 horsepower Yamaha engines, while 50 recipients received nets and insulated fish boxes with a total value of RM50,000.

In addition, LKIM also presented 30 rice kampits donated by the Sarawak Fishermen's Association (PENESA) and 20 rice kampits from PNK Satang Biru.

LKIM in a statement also expressed its commitment to continue implementing such programs to ensure that fishermen benefit fully and contribute to the growth of the country's fisheries sector.
