BANGI, Dec 16: Exports of palm oil and related products, which currently reach over RM100 billion per year, are also contributed by the results of continuous research and development (R&D).
Minister of Plantations and Communities, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said that the development has opened up various economic opportunities for local people involving employment and entrepreneurship.
The youth explained that the R&D carried out by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) must continue to ensure that the country's palm oil industry continues to excel globally.
"Many countries out there use our palm oil to be applied to products including food and non-food.
"So this is what I always emphasize to MPOB, which is to continue R&D because it is very important to ensure that our palm oil continues to thrive," he said.
He said this to reporters after attending the MPOB Excellence Awards Ceremony here today.
Meanwhile, Johari said, the value of Malaysian palm oil exports increased by 3.7 percent for the period January to November this year compared to the same period last year.
Johari said the achievement was also driven by strong demand from major importing countries.
"(In addition, it is also because of) the country's palm oil industry's ability to implement innovation in addition to compliance with sustainability aspects as required by several countries," he said.
