Martin Ben answered questions about the development of the Selangau Pig Farming Area.
KUCHING: The development of the Selangau Pig Farming Area, which covers an area of around 10 hectares, began earlier this year, involving land clearing and other infrastructure works.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Martin Ben said that this largest farming centre will be developed in three phases, using modern technology such as closed houses with sophisticated biosecurity systems and biogas facilities to meet international standards.
“With a maximum breeding capacity of 12,000 pigs, this project is expected to produce at least 250,000 pigs annually.
“When opened, it will not only provide employment opportunities for the local community, but also expand other businesses and various related services throughout this development phase,” he said.
He said this in response to a question from Tamin Assemblyman Christopher Gira on the Development of the Establishment of the Selangau Pig Farming Area at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, here, today.
According to him, a local company has been appointed as the main operator for this project, in collaboration with the Sarawak Land Development Board to expand the Selangau Pig Farming Complex (PFA) in Sungai Selabi.
