SERIAN: The organization of Serian Agrofest 2025, the first time held in this division, targets the attendance of more than 4,000 visitors including from Indonesia, especially West Kalimantan.
The event, which will be held at Dataran Mutiara Tebedu, Serian, will begin to open the curtain starting from May 23 to 25.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) Datuk Martin Ben said that his party called on residents, especially in the Serian, Tebedu, Siburan areas including Kuching and Samarahan, to attend the festival.
“In conjunction with the organization of this festival, we are also targeting the presence of visitors from neighboring countries such as Indonesia, especially West Kalimantan, to further enliven this festival.
He said this at a press conference in conjunction with the organization of Serian Agrofest 2025 at the Meeting Room, Serian Division Resident Office, today.
The organization of such an event aims to be a platform for farmers, ranchers and inland fishermen to showcase their respective products.
It will also open up an opportunity for the Serian Agriculture Department to meet customers while providing exposure and sharing the latest knowledge and technology in the field of agriculture.
He also said that there are various interesting activities awaiting visitors including sales and agency stalls - as proposed, 30 agency stalls; 20 (entrepreneurs and private companies) and 20 (Abuh or Serian kitchens).
“In addition, agricultural courses and demonstrations will also be held such as coffee plant dissemination, pepper and oil palm commodity courses, rambutan and durian tree grafting demonstrations, induced breeding of semah and tengadak fish, and shrimp cooking demonstrations kara.
“There will also be karaoke competitions, children’s colouring, the best tuak drink, eating asam paya, and a contest to guess the weight of guava fruit and the number of fish fry. Lucky ticket draws will also await lucky visitors.
“The highlights include the Aco Lepa Birami Gawai Programme organised by RTM on 23 May, the 10th Edition of the Bidayuh Song Chart Awards on 24 May, and the Agrofest Serian 2025 Concert on the same night,” he explained.
Martin, who is also the Kedup assemblyman, informed that the event will be officiated by the Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom on the opening day on 23 May.
Also scheduled to take place is the Gawai “Nginyon” parade which will involve all residents under the Serian Division Administration and all are encouraged to wear their respective ethnic traditional attire.
The opening ceremony will also see the handover of the Agrofest Organisation Baton to Betong Division as the next host for the Spaoh Agrofest 2025.
