SELANGAU: A total of 517 rubber plantation project participants in Sekuau will enjoy development benefits from the Sarawak Rubber Industry Board (SARIB), including dividend payments and monthly rental of RM200 per hectare of land.
Tamin assemblyman Ir. Christopher Gira Sambang (pictured) said this while attending the Leaders Together with the People Programme held at the Tan Nari Tuai Rumah Longhouse, Sekuau, last Saturday.
According to him, the rubber plantation area which was previously under the administration of the Federal Government, has been handed over to SARIB for comprehensive development.
“If the implementation of this project can be started, I am very happy because it will provide direct economic benefits to the people of Sekuau,” he said when speaking at the event.
He added that the implementation of the project will provide continuous income to the participants through land rental payments and annual dividends, thus helping to improve the socio-economic status of the rural community.
At the same ceremony, he also expressed his appreciation to local leadership such as Councillors, Penghulu and Tuai Rumah for their commitment and cooperation in making various development programmes a success.
“Sekuau has been my stronghold in the past two elections and we have managed to win all the ballot boxes in this area.
“The people of Sekuau have always been close to my heart, like my own family,” he said.
He also emphasised the important role of grassroots leadership, especially among tribal and community leaders who must always be sensitive to the needs and complaints of the residents in their respective areas.
The ceremony was also attended by his wife, Anita Anthony Ijan, Selangau District Officer Yalin Asan and Sibu Divisional Engineer Chieng Siong Ming.
