KUCHING (Nov 11): The implementation of various food crop development programmes will be backed by a RM30.4 million allocation next year, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

According to him, this allocation includes RM5.9 million for inland fisheries and aquaculture projects, and RM17.4 million for livestock and veterinary development.

“We are resolute in our commitment to enhance the livelihoods of small-holder farmers through targeted development initiatives,” he said when tabling the Supply (2025) Bill, 2024 at the august House yesterday.

Additionally, to empower agropreneurs with essential skills, Abang Johari announced that RM7.9 million will be allocated next year, meant for agricultural training, extension services and support for mechanisation and automation.

“These initiatives aim to equip smallholder farmers with the resources and expertise needed to thrive in a competitive agricultural landscape,” he added.

Furthermore, RM10.9 million will be allocated to the State Farmers’ Organisation (SFO) in 2025 so as to strengthen their marketing systems and improve facilities, while an additional RM4.6 million will be allocated to enhance the role of the Area Farmers’ Organisation.

“The State Farmers’ Organisation plays a vital role in supporting smallholders by offering guidance on sales management and expanding market access,” he said.
