BINTULU: Exporters, including downstream pepper entrepreneurs, are urged to always prioritize the quality of the pepper used in their product manufacturing.
Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Chan Foong Hin, hopes that the parties involved will be honest and responsible traders by not mixing Sarawak pepper with foreign pepper, which is often unsatisfactory and of questionable quality.
He said that such actions (mixing local pepper with foreign pepper) not only harm the industry, especially pepper plantation operators, but also damage the image of Sarawak pepper or Malaysian pepper itself in the eyes of the international pepper market.
"Do not let a single drop of ink ruin the entire pot of milk, tarnishing the good name and reputation of Sarawak pepper," he said after visiting Green World Success Foodchains Sdn Bhd (GWS Foodchains) here today.
Additionally, Foong Hin hopes that GWS Foodchains can explore the potential of the pepper commodity by diversifying the production of pepper-based products that can be widely commercialized for the long term.
GWS Foodchains is a food product manufacturer based in Bintulu, Sarawak, specializing in the production of spices and cooking ingredients, including pepper products under the GWS Foodchains brand.
Also present were the Director General of the Malaysian Pepper Board, Vincent Sawat, and the Secretary of the Cocoa and Pepper Industry Development Division, Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Cheah Chee Fong.
