SARIB plans to hold engagement sessions with 572 rubber smallholders

KUCHING: The Sarawak Rubber Industry Board (SARIB) is planning to hold engagement sessions with 572 rubber smallholders covering an area of ​​1,079.10 hectares in the Tebedu State Constituency.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (Commodity and Regional Development) Datuk Martin Ben said the engagement session is proposed to be held in June this year.

"Among other initiatives to assist these rubber smallholders include registering them with SARIB and obtaining Rubber Transaction Authority Permits (PAT-G), as well as collaborating with rubber wholesalers.

"We will also collaborate with financial institutions to open rubber accounts and implement plans to increase rubber production," he said.

He said this when responding to a question from Dr. Simon Sinang @ Sinang Bada (GPS-Tebedu) at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

For your information, Martin informed that SARIB has been operational for six months since October 26, 2023.

So far, he said, SARIB has implemented several development programs in collaboration with the Department Of Agriculture Sarawak, Area Farmers' Organization, cooperatives, and local community-based business entities.
