LAWAS: A total of 50,000 lobster seeds and 5,000 lampam fish were released on the banks of Sungai Lawas on Friday.
This release is in line with the Simultaneous Fish/Shrimp Seed Release Program in Public Waters Throughout Malaysia in 2023, a program organized by the Catch Fisheries Resources Division, Department of Fisheries Malaysia in collaboration with all State Fisheries Offices and the Sarawak Department of Agriculture.
For Sarawak, Lawas has been selected as the main location for the release of fish and shrimp seeds, including five other locations around Sarawak that will participate in the program.
The program in Lawas was officiated by the Chief Assistant Director of the Inland Fisheries Division of the Sarawak Department of Agriculture Fakhruddin Bohari who was accompanied by the Head of Fisheries Region III Miri of the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department Rizwan Nordin.
In his speech, Fakhrudin said, this program aims to preserve the natural resources of fish species, restore river fishing stocks, provide education and awareness to the public regarding resource conservation while also increasing the catch and landing of fish for the use of the inland fishing community.
Fakhrudin also witness the handover session of Fishery Fishing Equipment Input Assistance (BIPPN) by the Sarawak Department of Agriculture to the respective recipients
At the same time, the Sarawak Marine Fisheries Department also conducted a session on the Promotion of Modern Technology in the Aquaculture Industry through the Delivery and Support Service System (SPeKS), the Young Agropreneur Grant (GAM) and myAgropreneur Fisheries Assistance (myAP).
Also present were Administrative Officer of Lawas District Office Joseph Ganang Surang and Agricultural Officer (Development) of Limbang Division Natasha Jackson Tandang.
