KUCHING, 24 NOVEMBER 2023: The Sarawak Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) has approved the opening of new pig farms to increase domestic and export production.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development of Sarawak (Commodity and Regional Development), Datuk Martin Ben said that new farms can be opened if the farmers meet the requirements of 'Modern Pig Farm' (MPF).
"My ministry allows the opening of new farms to operate if the MPF conditions are met, especially good farm biosecurity practices," he said.
He said this when answering questions from Tebedu State Assembly Member, Dr. Simon Sinang at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference on Friday.
Datuk Martin added that pig farmers must submit a written application to the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department (DVSS) if they wish to do so.
"New applicants also need to make a written application to DVSS for the purpose of inspection and to obtain advisory services," he said.
